Food Label Terminology 101

Today labels on food products use a lot of different key words and phrases to indicate health benefits to their product. We have all seen the “cage free” declaration on eggs, or the “all natural” proclamation on various items throughout the grocery store. Now many of you may be thinking, ” Well the FDA monitors that.”, and yes that logic is correct. The FDA does have strict requirements as to the ingredients that must be listed, as well as the truthfulness of any claims made on the label. But that does not keep food production companies from using other phrasing to allude to health benefits of their product. Meaning if an item does not say Kosher, Organic, or GMO- Free then it is not. These words and certifications are not synonymous with any other phrase in the food industry. So do not be fooled by the bait and switch done in regards to product labeling, get yourself informed in regards to the information being presented by these labels. Do your own research and draw your own conclusions, just do not let any one fool you into believing what is not true. Is the Organic movement Growing?

Simple answer seems to be yes! According to the article that is linked in this blog the American people are finally starting to seek out organic food options. Despite all the unhealthy choices and the price of organic goods people are still attempting to feed themselves and their families the more healthier options.
